My son CJ is currently a Life Scout with Troop 23 in Harrisburg.  In order to obtain his Eagle Scout rank, he must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project that is helpful to the community.  He decided he wanted to complete his project at the Gettysburg National Military Park.  Once he reached out to them, they replied that one project that needed to be completed was the repair and repainting of the amphitheater on Confederate Avenue.  The amphitheater is used throughout the year for Ranger programs, weddings, and other special events.  

When he first looked at the amphitheater, it was in desperate need of painting and having some benches replaced.  Check out the “before” images:

 

After obtaining all the approvals and proper signatures, CJ was able to schedule his work party.  On May 20th, approximately 15 scouts and adults descended Gettysburg to fix up the amphitheater.  After a quick safety briefing, they set to work.  The group scraped benches, fixed up areas and applied new coats of paint.

I am proud of CJ for taking on this project as part of his journey to Eagle.  The group did a great job and any small thing that we can do to benefit the park is always a good thing.  Be sure to check out the Adopt A Position Program and find out how your scouts, family or group can help around the park.
